A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, the 27th to be convicted in a drug money skimming scandal, Wednesday was sentenced to 27 months in prison and three years’ probation by U.S. District Judge J. Spencer Letts.
The former deputy, Edward D. Jamison, 45, of Chino, was found guilty of filing false income tax returns and structuring financial transactions to hide his illegal activities.
The prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attys. Mark A. Byrne and Steven M. Arkow, said the evidence at trial showed that between 1986 and 1989 Jamison spent about $175,000 he had obtained illegitimately on a vacation home, automobiles, guns, jewelry, first-class trips to Hawaii and Alaska and other luxuries.
In addition to the 27 former deputies convicted, one former Los Angeles police officer and six others, including relatives and associates of the convicted deputies, have been found guilty in the scandal.
