Anaheim Man Dies in Jail Hospital Ward
An inmate suffering heroin withdrawal died Friday in custody at Orange County Jail, authorities said.
The 52-year-old Anaheim man, who was not identified pending notification of family, collapsed after sitting up in bed in a jail hospital ward, said Lt. Dan Martini of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The man, housed at the ward because of his withdrawal symptoms, had been charged with petty theft in Fullerton, Martini said. It was not clear how long he was jailed.
The district attorney’s office was investigating the death, as it does all jail deaths.
