SANTA PAULA : Crash Kills Driver, Injures Passenger

Share

A 17-year-old from Santa Paula died late Christmas Eve after her car spun out on rain-slicked California 126, veered onto the dirt shoulder and struck a tree, authorities said.

Marisol Rodriguez was driving east on California 126 near Briggs Road with her 21-year-old sister Maribell about 3:35 p.m. Saturday when she lost control of her car and crashed. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, California Highway Patrol officers said.

Neither Marisol Rodriguez nor her sister were wearing seat belts, authorities said, and emergency equipment was needed to remove them from the wreckage.

Both sisters suffered internal injuries and were taken to Santa Paula Hospital. Marisol Rodriguez was transferred later to Ventura County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about 9 p.m. Saturday, said Dale Zentzis of the Ventura County coroner’s office.

Over the past five years, 29 people have died along the winding stretch of California 126 between Ventura and the Los Angeles County line east of Fillmore.
