Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON STATE : Officer in Abortion Delay Case Is Fired

State Trooper Lane Jackstadt, charged with illegally detaining a couple en route to an abortion clinic, was fired for allegedly cheating on a promotion exam in 1993, a spokesman said. The case is not related to the abortion clinic incident. A trial date is pending for Jackstadt, who is charged with unlawful imprisonment and official misconduct for allegedly holding Deanna Thomas, 18, and Justin Cooper, 20, against their will.
