The list of items targeted for possible sanctions could be proposed later this week, the sources said, with the curbs to go into effect following a period of public comment. No date has been set, the sources said. Other imports on which the sanctions could be imposed include shoes and electrical goods, both of which are major components in China’s list of exports to the United States. U.S. firms have put their losses due to Chinese piracy at $800 million, and the United States typically targets imports to redress that loss, the sources said. The U.S. trade deficit with China is second only to its deficit with Japan.
