In what they said appeared to be an “incredible” coincidence, Inglewood police said Wednesday they are investigating the third fatal automobile collision within two days close to the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Imperial Highway.

Four men have been killed in the accidents since Monday, and seven other people have been injured, authorities reported.

In the latest incident, a southbound car driven by Tony Lawrence Davidson Jr., 22, of Lynwood, allegedly crossed over the traffic island on Crenshaw near 110th Street at high speed Tuesday afternoon and slammed head-on into a northbound automobile, killing motorist Ken Togioka, 69 of Gardena.

Davidson, who received broken bones, was arrested on suspicion of a traffic homicide and driving under the influence of a drug, police said. Investigators reported smelling marijuana in Davidson’s car. A passenger in his car and the driver of a third car also were injured.

Within 15-minute period Monday night, three men were killed and four other people were injured in two apparently unrelated incidents of illegal racing. One occurred on Crenshaw at 108th Street, and the other half a mile away on Imperial at Lemoli Avenue.

“It’s incredible, and I don’t have an explanation” for the coincidences, said Sgt. Ron Jackson, Inglewood police traffic division commander.
