Although bankruptcy has forced Orange County to cancel its tree recycling program this year, the loss will be offset because almost all cities in the county are offering to haul away or dispose of trees, though in some cases they won’t be recycled but merely taken to a local landfill. . Cities that require residents to drop off their trees because they will not be picked up include:

* Buena Park, at 7171 Thomas St., now through Jan. 26

* Mission Viejo now through Jan. 11 at Home Depot store, 27952 Hillcrest, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, until 9 p.m. weekdays

* Santa Ana, at Alona Park, 1817 W. 21st St., and Memorial Park, 2101 Flower St., on Jan. 7

* Tustin, at Columbus Tustin Park, 14712 Prospect Ave., on Jan. 7 and 8

Curbside collection is available in:

* Anaheim through Jan. 6

* Brea through Jan. 6

* Costa Mesa from Monday to Jan. 13

* Dana Point from Monday to Jan. 13

* Fullerton through Jan. 13

* Garden Grove through Jan. 6

* Huntington Beach through Jan. 13

* La Habra dates aren’t set, but collection information will be televised on cable Channel 3

* La Palma through Jan. 6

* Laguna Beach indefinitely, effective now

* Laguna Hills through Jan. 13

* Newport Beach indefinitely, effective now

* Orange through Jan. 7

* Placentia through Jan. 6

* San Clemente from Monday to Jan. 13

Cities offering both curbside pickup and drop-off sites include:

* Cypress from Tuesday to Jan. 7, with drop-off at corner of Walker Street and Orange Avenue from Tuesday to Jan. 6

* Costa Mesa from Tuesday to Jan. 13, with drop-off at Orange County Fairgrounds

* Irvine now through Jan. 7, with drop-off at 16182 W. Construction Circle on Saturday and Jan. 7

* Lake Forest began Dec. 26, with drop-off at Laguna Niguel Park on Jan. 7 and 8

* Los Alamitos on Wednesday, with drop-off at 10608 Los Alamitos Blvd. on Jan. 14
