Tim Foli, a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High, batted .333 with three runs batted in to help the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Baltimore Orioles in seven games in the 1979 World Series.

Foli, a baseball, football and basketball standout in high school, batted .562 as a senior at Notre Dame. He was the first pick in baseball’s amateur draft that year by the New York Mets, and finished with a .251 average and 15 homers in his 16-year major league career.
