NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Donations Replace Gifts Stolen at Center

Share

The Grinch may have tried to take Christmas away from the 136 children at the Dubnoff Center for Child Development and Educational Therapy in North Hollywood by stealing all of their presents and much of the center’s supplies.

But the spirit of Christmas prevailed, as donations of toys, clothing and money poured in to the center from all over Los Angeles for the children, many of whom would not have gotten any gifts otherwise.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better fund-raiser,” joked Marshall Pura, a counselor at Dubnoff, who said the 47-year-old organization has never received so many donations or publicity as it did when it was broken into the week before Christmas.

Among those organizations who helped out was AmeriCare, an East Coast-based charity, that arranged a shopping spree at the Athlete’s Foot store at the Glendale Galleria.

Barbara Stock, an actress featured in television’s “Spencer for Hire,” alerted AmeriCare of the Dubnoff Center’s plight.
