Tommie Frazier is Nebraska’s starting quarterback, but Brook Berringer will play in the Orange Bowl game Sunday night at Miami, Cornhusker Coach Tom Osborne said.

According to Osborne, Berringer could conceivably play the majority of the game. Then again, he said, “It might be Tommie.”

Berringer was a little more definitive. He said he expected to play “late in the first quarter, early second quarter.”

Whatever the schedule, Nebraska players didn’t seem too concerned about the switch of starters.

“I don’t think it really matters who plays quarterback,” offensive lineman Zach Wiegert said. “If we’re going to pass, we can pass block. If we’re going to run, we can run block. They’re both very capable and will do a good job. I’ll go with whatever (Osborne) says.”

With the firing of Tom Flores as the Seattle Seahawks’ coach, Miami’s Dennis Erickson was asked again about his possible interest in the opening.

Different day, same answer.

“As far as I’m concerned, nothing changes,” he said. “I’m worried about the Orange Bowl.”
