94: THE YEAR IN REVIEW : Valley arts and entertainment rebound after a shaky start : In With the New : 12-Year-Old Punching All the Right Buttons

Jay Liebowitz’s business is booming.

After an article featuring his prodigious programming skills appeared in The Times in November, the 12-year-old Chaminade Intermediate School student said he has seen about a 10% increase in his $24,000-a-year software business.

Liebowitz uploads his homemade software to CompuServe, an on-line computer service that features several forums through which users can buy and sell programs. His $35 WinDOS program is a file manager package geared to help users learn to use a computer, and his $15 Batch Edit helps organize computer files.

He also was a guest on a Tampa-based syndicated radio program, “The Entrepreneur Opportunity Show,” through which he sold additional software. And he may have found an agent for his just-completed book, “A Twelve-Year-Old’s View on America.”

But Liebowitz isn’t content to rest on his laurels. He is pursuing an interest in history. And he has just resumed golf lessons to try to reduce his 13 handicap.
