Legent Names Ex-AT&T; Executive as Chairman: Herndon, Va.-based Legent Corp. snagged high-profile AT&T; Corp. executive Jerre Stead as chairman and chief executive in a bid to bring marketing clout to its switch from selling mainframe software to pitching network programs. Stead, 51, will succeed Legent’s current CEO and president, John Burton, as chief executive. He also will become chairman when Chairman Joe Henson retires in February. Stead has been chairman and chief executive of AT&T; Global Information Solutions since May, 1993. Stead’s position at AT&T; will be held temporarily by William O’Shea, the unit’s senior vice president for worldwide marketing.
