New Management Firm Changes Hotel’s Name From Le Meridien to Sutton Place

NEWPORT BEACH — The 435-room Le Meridien Hotel on Tuesday became Sutton Place Hotel as its Hong Kong-based owner established its own hotel management company.
Le Meridien, a Newport Beach luxury hotel, has been owned by Grande Group since 1989. It now will be managed by Sutton Place Grande Hotels Group.
Linda O’Toole, the hotel’s general manager since 1991, said Grande Group luxury hotels in Toronto and Vancouver also will use the Sutton Place name.
The hotels had been managed by Air France’s Le Meridien subsidiary. Grande Group decided to establish its own management unit after Air France last year said it was selling Le Meridien management company.
O’Toole said that the Newport Beach hotel’s 450 employees will not be affected by the change. The hotel’s entire management team transferred from Le Meridien to Sutton Place Grande Hotels.
“The only thing that has changed is the name of the hotel,” she said.
