Man, 18, Riding in Car Fatally Shot

Three teen-agers drove about seven miles across the San Fernando Valley before realizing one of them had been fatally shot along their journey, police said Tuesday.

The friends had left Alex Boroomi’s home in Reseda on Monday night and were heading toward a friend’s house in Granada Hills when a gray Honda Civic raced past them at Reseda Boulevard and Parthenia Street. At that time, the youths heard a popping sound, Detective Marshall White said.

The teen-agers thought nothing of it until they arrived at a house on Tuscan Avenue a few minutes later, about 10:30 p.m. They found that Boroomi, 18, who had been sitting alone in the rear seat, was bleeding with a bullet through his torso, White said. The youths called paramedics, but Boroomi was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This guy was kind of just laying back there in the rear seat, and they said, ‘Wait, this guy’s not asleep!’ ” White said. “They had been out, it was late . . . some things sound ridiculous when you read them,” but the youths’ story made sense to detectives, he said.

Police have no suspects and said they were baffled as to the motive for the shooting.
