REGION : Bus Line With Few Riders Canceled
- Share via
Because of low ridership, bus line 443 through Torrance, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula will be eliminated Jan. 22.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority directors first considered the cutback in June during budget hearings, then evaluated ridership on the line for four months before voting recently to end the service. MTA directors also voted to continue cuts made in September to Line 445, which runs from Los Angeles to Alpine Village in Torrance and San Pedro. The line was reduced from 10 to six daily trips.
As part of its six-month evaluation of all bus lines, the MTA canceled most stops on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for lines 225 and 226. Line 225 will now run only once in the morning and once in the afternoon to serve Miraleste Intermediate School students.
