HOLLYWOOD : Aid Asked in Finding Suspect in Shooting
Los Angeles police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down an alleged Culver City gang member suspected of shooting a teen-ager in front of a Hollywood club on Dec. 30.
Detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division are seeking Israel Sarabia, 22, in last week’s shooting of Anthony Martinez, 17, a high school senior who was handing out promotional flyers in front of a club in the 800 block of North Highland Avenue.
Police said Sarabia and several other men had been ejected from the nightclub for disorderly conduct. When Sarabia started to drive away, he allegedly fired six rounds into the crowd in front of the club. Martinez was struck in the back of the head and remains hospitalized in serious condition, police said.
Sarabia evaded arrest Tuesday when Los Angeles officers moved in to capture him on a Culver City street, authorities said.
Sarabia, also known as Israel Barbar and by his street name, Gordo, is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 240 pounds, with short dark hair and a full mustache. He had been living on Westminster Avenue in Los Angeles and frequents the area of Kinston Avenue in Culver City, police said.
Police are asking anyone who sees Sarabia to call 911 or contact Hollywood Division Detectives Lloyd Parry or Tom Chevolek at (213) 485-6410.
