A 6-year-old Camarillo kindergartner held a teacher and her assistant at bay with a pair of scissors during a brief classroom rampage sparked in protest of his being ordered to the principal’s office, authorities said.

The Dec. 19 incident, which was reported to authorities Wednesday, occurred at El Descanso School, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Lazz.

Lazz, who did not identify the boy, said teacher Kathy Rosario filed the report with deputies this week to document the incident. No one was seriously injured.

“This is a fairly unusual situation,” Lazz said. “In fact, I’ve never heard of a child that young doing something like that.”

In her report to police, Rosario said she ordered the boy to the principal’s office because he was being disruptive. In reaction, the student yelled that he would not go and began throwing wood blocks at the teacher, school officials said.

The boy, who weighs about 40 pounds and is about 4 feet tall, lifted a chair over his head and threatened to charge Rosario, school officials said. He then dropped the chair and began kicking Rosario and a teaching assistant who had been summoned for help, they said.

The boy then grabbed a pair of scissors and began threatening the teachers, school officials said.

Unable to get the youngster to calm down or drop the scissors, the two women sought Principal Julie Cavaliere’s help, said Howard Hamilton, associate superintendent for the Pleasant Valley School District. After talking with the boy a short time, Cavaliere got him to surrender the scissors, he said.

Hamilton said the district will not press charges against the boy but already has taken disciplinary action against him. He declined to detail what the punishment entailed.
