A 16-year-old female passenger in a Nissan Pathfinder was critically injured late Sunday night after the sport utility vehicle collided with a parked dump truck in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.

The accident, which took place on Bowfield Street just west of Lindero Canyon Road, occurred about 7:20 p.m. when the white Pathfinder slammed into the dump truck, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Raymond Nagel.

Nagel said a 16-year female passenger in the front seat of the Pathfinder, identified as April Davis of Thousand Oaks, sustained major injuries after part of the rear assembly of the parked truck pierced the sport utility’s windshield on the right, front side where she was riding.

“We don’t know why this accident occurred. We are trying to figure out what happened as we speak,” Nagel said, adding that the dump truck was legally parked.

A nursing supervisor at Westlake Medical Center said Davis was listed in critical condition as of 9:30 p.m.

Two other teen-agers--a 16-year-old male identified as Michael Joseph of Thousand Oaks, who was driving the Pathfinder, and Jessica Foster, 16, of Thousand Oaks, who was riding in the left back seat--were still being evaluated by emergency room doctors as of late Sunday.

No one was in the dump truck at the time of the accident, Nagel said.
