Train Kills Woman on Tracks
A woman apparently committed suicide Monday by throwing herself on the Southern Pacific railroad tracks in the path of a freight train, Los Angeles police reported.
The train crew saw the woman, dressed in running attire, jogging alongside the tracks outside a railroad tunnel near Chatsworth Park, Sgt. Ed Wheelis said. As they watched, the woman placed herself across the tracks and was killed by the train, which was too close to her to stop, Wheelis said.
The coroner’s office was attempting to identify the woman, who appeared to be about 30 years old.
