Longtime Ventura County farmer Monroe M. Everett has died at the age of 87.

Born in Montalvo in 1907, Everett was a lifelong county resident who grew citrus, avocados and walnuts on his Moorpark farm. He was a founder of the Calleguas Municipal Water District and served on the district’s board of directors for 16 years.

Everett was an aviator as well as a farmer, said Pat Miller, president of the Calleguas Water District board.

“He had his own airstrip on his farm that he would fly out of,” Miller said. “I remember him as a true gentleman and dedicated board member.”

Everett, who died Monday at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Moorpark United Methodist Church.
