Countywide : Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Honor Los Amigos Chairman

Share

Barely a month after Amin David, chairman of Los Amigos of Orange County, was named Man of the Year by one Latino activist group for his work in the community, another organization has announced that it will honor him for the same reason.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orange County will give David an Estrella award for community service at an awards banquet in April. The award is given each year to someone who is involved with the Latino community, Chamber President Raul J. Medrano said.

“Amin David has been very, very active for several years, and we want to honor him for his service,” Medrano said.

He praised David for his efforts to denounce Proposition 187 during the last election, for his longtime advocacy of Latino rights and for promoting diversity in the work force.

The award “is essentially saying that my work has pleased my peers in the business community,” said David, 59, who last month was named Man of the Year by the Anaheim League of United Latin American Citizens.

He owns Imperial Products, a wholesale plumbing supply company in Anaheim.

Medrano said his organization also will honor other people who have contributed to the success of Latinos in their respective fields with Estrella awards.

They are Genaro (Chicanito) Hernandez, a professional boxer; Fernando Niebla, owner of Infotec Development Corp., the largest minority-owned business in Orange County; UC Irvine Chancellor Lauren L. Wilkening, and actress Carmen Zapata.

The public is invited to attend the awards dinner dance, which will be April 29 at the Disneyland Hotel at 6 p.m. Cost is $75 per person.
