THOUSAND OAKS : Sheriff’s Bill Could Rise $108,610 in 1995
Police protection could cost the city of Thousand Oaks an extra $108,610 this year, under a new contract proposed by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
The department, which serves the city under contract, is asking the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to approve new pay rates for patrol officers and station personnel. If approved, the raises would be retroactive, and part of the costs would be passed on to Thousand Oaks and other cities.
The $108,610 increase in the city’s $2.2-million bill for police services pays for a standard cost-of-living raise, according to the department.
Thousand Oaks Councilwoman Elois Zeanah said she will not protest the hike.
“I’d say we are getting more than our dollar value for our police services,” Zeanah said. “We have to put public safety first. We can’t quibble about that.”
Thousand Oaks is the second safest city of its size in the nation, according to a study released by the FBI last year.
“The Sheriff’s Department has proved that they do watch their costs and are conservative in their spending,” she added.
