Over 1,600 Homes Lose Power

Electrical power outages struck areas of the San Fernando Valley Sunday and Monday, leaving over 1,600 homes with no power, according to officials.

In Northridge, about 800 customers were left with no power from 10:40 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday when water from last week's rainss seeped into underground cables, according to Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Mindy Berman.

An hour and a half later, parts of North Hollywood were left without power when a small animal got caught in electrical wires. Some 800 customers were affected and power was restored about 11 a.m., Berman said.

Later Monday afternoon, areas of Studio City were left without power and about 75 homes were affected. The outage began at 2:30 p.m. and was caused by downed power lines near Berry and Ridgemoor drives. Berman said power might be restored by this morning.
