Hawthorne: School Superintendent’s Ouster

Share

Concerning your article about the Hawthorne school board (“Superintendent Quits, Cites Board Conflicts,” Dec. 15): Congratulations to the three school board members who forced Christa Metzger to resign as superintendent of the Hawthorne School District. They have achieved what few people could--the destruction of good morale within the school district. These three members refused to listen to the views of the entire community--including teachers, administrators, the Chamber of Commerce, clergy and service group members.

Because of a misplaced desire to prove their independence, they have greatly hurt the city of Hawthorne and its children. I have heard them characterized as the “Three Stooges,” but I think this description is wrong, because these three are clearly not funny. Instead, I think they should be characterized as the “Three Blind Mice” for their refusal to see the good things Dr. Metzger has done for our schools and our children.

When they come up for reelection, I think we, the voters of Hawthorne, should exercise our independence and “chop their tails off.”
