Benton Oil Says It Has Tested Louisiana Well
Benton Oil & Gas Co., based in Oxnard, says it and its partners have successfully tested a well in the Rabbit Island Field in St. Mary and Iberia parishes, Louisiana. The well tested at a rate of 9.1-million cubic feet of natural gas and 47 barrels of condensate per day.
The well is being completed, and production is expected to start in about 60 days, the company said.
A Benton official said the well demonstrates the success of the firm’s strategy of using 3-D seismic technology to further develop existing oil and gas fields in the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.
“Since May, 1994, the company has successfully drilled and completed three of these type of wells on its Gulf Coast properties,” said A. E. Benton, the firm’s chairman and chief executive. He said Benton will continue using this approach in other exploration throughout 1995.
Benton and Tenneco Ventures each have a 37.5% working interest in the Rabbit Island well. Texaco, operator of the field, has a 25% working interest.
