Anne Woodward Koken Barnett, an Ojai potter and quilter whose works were enjoyed by her family, has died at the age of 75.

Barnett, who died Sunday, had a pottery wheel and kiln in her San Fernando Valley home, where she hosted a group of six artists in the 1960s and 1970s, said Fritzie Bonenberger, a member of the group.

“We did bowls, we did vases, we did mugs, we did plates. We were experimenting and learning,” Bonenberger said.

The pottery was a hobby. Barnett raised poodles as a business, keeping as many as 30 at a time in a kennel outside her Canoga Park home, said her daughter, Deena Barnett of Ojai.

Barnett later moved to Hawaii, where she continued to work in her ceramics studio and had a vegetable garden.

When she moved to Ojai several years ago, Barnett closed her pottery studio, but continued to express her creativity through quilting.

“They were pieces of art more than blankets, although we all have them on our beds,” Barnett said. “Most of the patterns she designed herself.”

In addition to her daughter, Deena, she leaves a son, Lewis Barnett of Ojai; two other daughters, Laura Dekloe of Colorado Springs and Pam Eckert of Livermore. Her ex-husband, David Barnett, also survives.

A memorial service was held Tuesday. Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai handled the arrangements.
