Recent Storms Have Cafe Running for Cover : With business floundering due to rain, Nona’s open-air restaurant will soon get a retractable awning.

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Part of the appeal of Nona’s Courtyard Cafe in Ventura is its courtyard--used for open-air dining. The trouble with open-air dining, however, is that when the rain drops, so does business.

But that should no longer be a problem at Nona’s. Restaurant owner/chef Jonathan Enabnit said last week he expected to have a retractable awning completely installed over his patio by today. Weather permitting, that is.

“I’ve been waiting for this a long, long time,” he said. “Not having an awning has killed my business. My serving area has been out in the courtyard, so we’ve been lugging tables inside (when it rains). Now we’ll be serving in the courtyard, rain or shine.”

Good news for folks who can’t get enough chocolate. Godiva, the company popular for its classy Belgian-style confections, has become computerized. Yes, the chocolate manufacturer recently teamed up with Chocolatier magazine--a publication dedicated to all things chocolate--to create “Godiva Online, A Chocolate Lover’s Playground.”

Now, computer-literate chocolate fans can order chocolate over the Internet, by using the online address https://www.godiva.com./ They will also be able to communicate with Godiva and Chocolatier through e-mail, as well as receive recipes, chocolate articles, a timeline history of chocolate, a list of chocolate terms and chocolate trivia--all illustrated with chocolate graphics.
