Obituaries : David Cole; Record Producer Won Grammy

David Cole, a record producer who won a Grammy for “The Bodyguard” soundtrack, has died. Cole was half of the creative team behind C+C Music Factory and an acclaimed remixer for Natalie Cole, Grace Jones and others.

Cole died Tuesday in New York of spinal meningitis at age 32.

With his partner, Robert Clivilles, Cole made his name pumping up the dance music resurgence of the late 1980s. C+C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat” became a dance anthem, eventually crossing over to become a radio and MTV staple. The work of Cole and Clivilles helped turn producers into stars, and they brought in different singers and musicians to create their musical vision.

Cole worked as a session musician on remixes for Fleetwood Mac and Janet Jackson. As a producer, he and Clivilles handled dance remixes of tracks by Cole, Jones, Luther Vandross and Seduction.

The Tennessee native became a well-known club deejay in New York before forming C+C.
