Rodriguez, Stockton Commit to Playing O.C. Senior Tour Event

Chi Chi Rodriguez and Dave Stockton Sr. are among the players who have committed to play in the Toshiba Senior Classic golf tournament, March 17-19 at Mesa Verde Country Club, said Don Andersen, executive director of the Orange County Sports Assn.

The association, which is running the event, received an updated list of entries Tuesday from the Senior PGA Tour.

"It's a fantastic list," Andersen said Tuesday. "Nine of the top 10 and about 30 of the top 35 money winners have signed up."

The players include Bob Charles, Jim Colbert, Jim Albus, Jim Dent, George Archer, Simon Hobday and Bob Dickson, who won the last PGA event at Mesa Verde, the 1968 Haig Open. Lee Trevino had previously committed to play.

Andersen said 92 have signed up, so some will have to qualify to make the 78-player field. Open qualifying for four spots will be March 13 at Yorba Linda Country Club.
