Another Southland hotel, Crown Sterling Suites in Anaheim near Disneyland, offers savings for travelers over 60. A two-room suite, which is normally $144 per day for two people, is reduced to $89 per day with no restrictions except space availability. Suites include two rooms--a bedroom and a living room with a sofa sleeper. Additional guests in a suite are $10 per day each. There is also an indoor swimming pool, steam room, Jacuzzi and sauna. Just 30 minutes north of the California border in southern Oregon’s Rogue River country is the small oceanfront community of Gold Beach. On this dramatic coastline is Clear Sky Luxury Lodging, recently opened, and offering special discounts for seniors. The assortment of lodging includes townhouses and two- and three-bedroom homes with two baths. All units are furnished with color TV, washer/dryers and fully equipped kitchens with microwaves and gas grill barbecue. An added luxury is a spa and sauna building.

Minimum stay at Clear Sky is two nights and rates begin at $130 per night ($100 for three or more nights) except for the largest unit, which is $175 per night. However, travelers over age 50 will receive the following discounts: On a one-month rental there is a 50% discount until June 1. On daily rentals, except for holiday weekends, seniors who rent for nine paid nights get five extra nights at no charge. And five-day rentals receive two extra days free.

The Alana Waikiki Hotel in Honolulu has initiated a discount program for seniors that includes reduced rates for guest rooms and meals. The hotel, with more than 300 rooms, is located between Waikiki and the huge Ala Moana Park and shopping center. Its public spaces house an art collection that includes a $1.5-million gallery of original Picasso ceramics. All rooms have refrigerators, hair dryers, robes, coffee makers and private lanais. Free newspapers are delivered daily. There is also a swimming pool and fitness center.

Guests at the Alana Waikiki who are over age 60 receive a 25% discount off rooms that normally range from $120 to $160. A choice of suites is also available and subject to the seniors’ discount.
