FDA Probes Bogus Baby Formula: The Food and Drug Administration said it is investigating counterfeit cans of a popular baby formula that turned up in Northern California Safeway grocery stores this week. The bogus Similac does not appear harmful, FDA spokesman Jim O’Hara said. “We have had no reports of injuries to date, and we are continuing to analyze the product,” he said. The counterfeit product is packaged to resemble Similac powdered infant formula with iron in 16-ounce cans, including the identification number. The bottom of each can bears the lot number 87532RB APR96 0341 87532RB APR96.
