Kobe Woman Hears Her Dog Bark; Pet Rescued

KOBE, Japan —
Eighteen days after the earthquake that knocked down her house, Teruko Kimura heard a barking in the rubble.
“Dick?” she shouted, calling the name of her 6-month-old golden retriever. She heard more barking.
Four hours later, with the help of 34 firefighters and police, the dog was freed. It looked weak but otherwise was in good condition, police said Sunday.
