The deadline for Fullerton Joint Union High School students to turn in transfer applications is 3 p.m. Friday.

The school board last year approved a policy that allows students who live in the district boundaries to attend schools outside their attendance areas.

Applications may be obtained at any of the district’s six high schools.

TUSTIN: Foothill Students Get Arts Awards

Two students from Foothill High School were recently named semifinalists in the 1995 Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight awards, which seeks to encourage young people to pursue careers in the performing arts.

Shealan Spencer, a freshman, and Ruby Cheng, a junior, were among 71 performers chosen from among 650 students from seven Southern California counties nominated for the awards by their school districts.

Spencer was selected in the dance category. She will train with Broadway choreographer Keith Young at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles this month.

Cheng was recognized in the classical instrument category for her skills in playing the piano. She will train with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

FULLERTON: Troy High Student Becomes Eagle Scout

Edward James Bobbett, 18, has become an Eagle Scout--the highest honor given by the Boys Scouts of America.

Bobbett lives in Fullerton and is a senior at Troy High School.

As part of his public service contributions to earn the honor, Bobbett volunteered to paint murals at the Boys and Girls Club of Fullerton.

LA HABRA: Westinghouse Contest Semifinalist Named

Meghan Rollins, a La Habra High School student, has been chosen a semifinalist in the 54th annual Westinghouse Science Talent Search.

She is one of 300 student semifinalists from throughout the country selected from 1,677 entries.

Rollins was picked because of research she did at Cal State Fullerton on the diets of the elegant tern and the Forster’s tern at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve. The research was part of a Southern California Junior Academy of Science project.

Rollins will present her research at a national convocation of young scientists this month in Atlanta.
