Westminster, which was founded by a Presbyterian minister, is living up to its reputation as a church-friendly city.

About 30 churches from various denominations are now operating in the city.

Westminster was founded in 1870 by the Rev. Lemuel P. Webber. Nine years later, it had three attractive churches--the Methodist Church, built in 1876 at a cost of $1,800; the Congregational Church, built in 1878 for $4,000, and the $3,400 Presbyterian Church, built in 1879.

The present-day First Presbyterian Church traces its roots to Webber’s original flock.

The discussions will focus on personal safety, fraud and bunco, traffic and home safety. Seniors can learn when to call the police, what happens when they do call and what information the officers will need in the event of a crime.

The meeting runs from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buena Park Senior Center, 8150 Knott Ave., and continues Feb. 16, 23 and March 2.
