MOORPARK : Ex-Planner Named to County Commission

Ventura County Supervisor Judy Mikels has appointed former Moorpark Planning Commissioner Michael Wesner to the county Planning Commission.

Wesner’s work--managing databases for law firms across the western United States--kept him from seeking reappointment in December to the Moorpark Planning Commission after serving for four years.

But Wesner said the county Planning Commission meetings were easier for him to fit into his schedule.

Mikels picked Wesner because of his experience and because he is from Moorpark, said Keith Jajko, a spokesman for the supervisor.

“Judy really wanted to appoint someone from Moorpark to a key county post,” Jajko said.

Wesner said he was looking forward to working on several large projects expected to come before the board in the next year, including the 3,200-home Messenger Investment Co. project proposed for just outside Moorpark.

“There are a lot of important issues coming before the commission,” he said. “In Moorpark, we could manage our own growth, but we didn’t have a lot of control (about) what happened outside our city. The fact is, I understand how growth in the unincorporated areas affects cities.”
