Adult Schools Could Offer Remedial Courses

Share

The fact that about 70% of entering Cal State Northridge freshmen fail math and English college placement tests has to reflect California’s plummeting from third to 43rd in state education expenditures for kindergarten through 12th-grade students.

As a retired adult school head counselor, I suggest that remedial courses in English and math to qualify some of these high school graduates for university studies be offered in the adult schools. With CSUN helping to set standards for hiring the remedial instructors, remedial course curricula and final testing, this option could be both cost-effective to the state and more convenient and economical for the troubled students.
