A 16-year-old boy was arrested in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Santa Monica College basketball player after a fight at a hamburger stand, police said.

The suspect, a Santa Monica resident whose name was withheld because of his age, is accused of killing Davy Fortson about 10 p.m. Friday at Tommy’s Burger in the 1900 block of Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Police found Fortson on the ground outside the restaurant suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to UCLA Medical Center, where he died.

The suspect, who fled with a group of friends, was arrested early Saturday at his girlfriend’s house, police said. Police say the boy belonged to a tagging crew called “Insane Habits.” He is being held at Juvenile Hall.

Fortson, a 6-foot-2 guard at Dorsey High School, was considered one of the best players on Santa Monica College’s team.
