THOUSAND OAKS : Sound Wall Viewed as Costly Addition

Thousand Oaks Councilwoman Elois Zeanah’s request to build a sound wall in a neighborhood that backs up to the Ventura Freeway may be too expensive to approve, public works officials wrote in a report that the full City Council will consider this evening.

Furthermore, if the wall does prove economically viable, state highway officials said there is a 10-year backlog for sound wall requests.

Instead of approving the 350-foot wall behind Erik Miller’s home on 147 Fairview Road, Public Works Director Donald H. Nelson is requesting that the council wait until the 10-year capital improvement program is completed.

The job would cost about $170,000, officials estimate. Zeanah made the request after someone fired four gunshots into the Miller residence from a car entering the freeway from Hampshire Road.

Miller also said passing motorists often throw beer bottles and other debris into his back yard.

“If you give me 100 feet, I’d be happy,” said Miller, 75.
