Collision Jams Traffic on I-5
An accident on the Golden State Freeway just south of the Grapevine caused delays for thousands of motorists returning home Monday afternoon from the three-day holiday weekend, authorities said.
A tractor-trailer and a car collided at 5:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 north of Frazier Park, forcing authorities to close all but one lane heading toward Los Angeles for about 90 minutes, said Officer Kerri Hawkins of the California Highway Patrol. Traffic backed up for more than a mile, Hawkins said, until authorities were able to reopen all lanes.
One person suffered minor injuries in the crash and was hospitalized, the officer said. The CHP was investigating the cause of the mishap, which occurred in clear, dry weather.
