OXNARD : City, School District Study Pact for Pool

Share

Oxnard high school district administrators have begun talks with city leaders to gauge interest in building a state-of-the-art pool that would be used by students and residents, Supt. Bill Studt said Tuesday.

If the city agrees to the joint venture, a pool that can accommodate swimming and polo competitions as well as swimming instruction would be built at the new Oxnard High School under construction on Gonzales Road, Studt said.

Although Oxnard Union High School District trustees have already agreed to build the pool, they do not have the $1.4 million to pay for it, Studt said.

An arrangement where the city agrees to kick in some money will help accelerate the funding process, he said. In return, the city would be authorized to make the pool available to the public, Studt said.

A similar agreement helped build the swimming pool at the existing Oxnard High on 5th Street, officials said.

Studt will discuss the possible joint venture with the Board of Education at a meeting scheduled for 7:30 tonight in the district office board room on South K Street.

The board will also hear a report on how much money the district is expected to receive for the next academic year.
