FILLMORE : City to Celebrate Its Quake Recovery
- Share via
After weeks of delay, Fillmore city officials and residents Saturday will celebrate their yearlong journey recovering from damages caused by the Northridge earthquake.
The event, initially scheduled for Jan. 14, was postponed twice because of heavy rains.
During the celebrations, which will take place downtown from 2 to 5 p.m., the Fillmore High School band will perform and the Herrera Brothers band will play Latin music, said Fillmore Mayor Linda Brewster.
In addition, agencies such as the Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the local Fire Department will set up booths to answer questions about earthquake preparedness.
The Southern California Gas Co. will show residents how to turn off gas meters, and counselors from Project Cope will show parents how to help their children deal with post-earthquake trauma.
For more information about the celebrations, call Fillmore City Hall at 524-3701.
