EL TORO MARINE BASE — A retired U.S. Marine colonel in charge of base recreation was found dead Friday in his room, apparently from hanging, base officials said.
The body of Jerald R. Agenbroad, 50, was discovered in his room at the bachelor officers’ quarters on base about 10 a.m. by an employee who went to check when Agenbroad failed to show up for work, Cpl. Christy McGill said.
“The death appeared to have been caused by hanging,” McGill said.
McGill said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating.
Since retiring Feb. 1, Agenbroad had been civilian director of morale, welfare and recreation, in charge of base clubs, food sales and base stores at El Toro and the Tustin Marine Corps Air Base, McGill said.
He is survived by his wife and daughter.
