Prosecutors filed a murder charge Friday against a teen-ager accused in the gang-related killing of an 18-year-old boy who was shot in Northridge while riding in a friend’s car, police said.
Alex Boroomi of Reseda was riding to a friend’s house in Granada Hills on Jan. 2 when another car raced past, police said. The youths in the car with Boroomi heard a popping sound, but did not think much of it until they reached their destination a few minutes later and found that Boroomi had been fatally shot.
According to witnesses, a confrontation had broken out between Boroomi’s group and some other youths at a gas station, Los Angeles Police Detective Marshall White said. The dispute escalated after the teen-agers left the gas station.
A 16-year-old boy, who is believed to have driven the car carrying the shooter, was charged with murder Friday, and a 17-year-old boy, who police say fired the gun, is expected to be charged Monday, White said. Prosecutors declined to file murder charges against two other youths.
