COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mastery Stretches to 14 Consecutive Games

Leo Gorauskas had 19 points and 12 rebounds as The Master’s College won its 14th consecutive men’s basketball game Friday night, closing the regular season with a 106-48 victory over California Christian at Master’s.

Master’s (27-4), which has won 20 of 21 games, plays next in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics Far West Regional playoffs, which start Friday at Chapman University.

The Mustangs, who held California Christian to 23% shooting, got 17 points from sophomore guard Mike Penberthy and 11 points from forward James Mosley.

John Ordonio and Colin Lubsey each added 10 points for Master’s, which outrebounded California Christian, 55-21.

Saddleback 89, Oxnard 66--Micah Kroeger scored 23 points and the Gauchos eliminated the Condors in the Southern California men’s junior college basketball playoffs at Mission Viejo.

Saddleback, co-champion of the Orange Empire Conference, next plays the winner of tonight’s Antelope Valley-Santa Barbara game.

Brandon Lee scored 16 points for Oxnard (16-16).

BASEBALL

Kyung Hee 10, CS Northridge 3--Jonathan Campbell’s solo home run to lead off the fifth was one of few highlights for the Matadors in an exhibition game at Northridge.

Kyung Hee, of South Korea, broke open a 4-3 game with three runs in the sixth and ninth innings, and finished with 10 hits.

Josh Smaler collected three hits and drove in a run for Northridge. The Matadors used six pitchers.

Cal Lutheran 8, Redlands 2--John Becker hit a three-run home run in the fourth to power the Kingsmen to their first Southern California Athletic Conference victory.

Carlos Garibay (2-0) pitched Cal Lutheran’s first complete game of the season, allowing 10 hits and striking out four.

Tom Lunsford and Ray Arvizu each had three hits for Cal Lutheran (2-5, 1-3).

Pierce 8, Grossmont 3--Jason Warren (1-2) didn’t give up an earned run over six innings, and Jim DeBiase pitched three perfect innings for the Brahmas (3-10) in a nonconference game at Grossmont.

Cuesta 3, Mission 1--Ray Rivera went the distance as Mission lost a first-round game of the Bakersfield tournament.

Rivera struck out six and allowed five hits but two unearned runs in the seventh were too much for Mission (3-8) to overcome.

Canyons 6, Harbor 5--Pinch hitter Jeff Christensen hit a decisive sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for the Cougars (4-9) in a nonconference game at Harbor. Justin Bunch’s two-out double tied the game earlier in the inning.

The Seahawks (9-6) outhit the Cougars, 11-7.

MEN’S TRACK

Moorpark 99, Ventura 76, West L.A. 10, Valley 0--Jeff Beam broke Moorpark’s record in the pole vault for the second time this season and teammate Jeff Wilson won the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 meters for the Raiders in the Western State Conference meet.

Beam cleared 15 feet 3 inches to break the record of 15-2 set by Brian Lubocki last week.

WOMEN’S TRACK

Moorpark 89, Ventura 42, Valley 22, West L.A. 13--Tami Vaillancourt won three individual events and Heather Hanger two for the Raiders in a WSC meet at Moorpark.

Vaillancourt placed first in the shotput (31 feet 9 inches), discus (124-5) and javelin (90-1). Hanger took the 100-meter high hurdles (17.1) and the 400 lows (72.0) and ran legs on the victorious 400 and 1,600 relay teams.

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 15-22, Pomona-Pitzer 0-2--Cal Lutheran collected 31 hits in an SCIAC sweep at Pomona-Pitzer.

Heather Carey had five hits and seven RBIs for Cal Lutheran (6-4, 4-0). Both games were stopped because of the mercy rule.

Johanna LaRocue pitched a complete game three-hitter with two strikeouts and no walks for the Regals in the first game.

Bekkah Snyder and Tracy Little also had five hits. Snyder had five RBIs and Little drove in three runs and had three doubles.

VOLLEYBALL

UC Santa Barbara d. CS Northridge 15-7, 15-5, 15-10--Donny Harris had 19 kills as the Gauchos (9-4, 8-3) swept the Matadors in a Mountain Sports Federation Match at Santa Barbara.

Northridge, which defeated Pepperdine earlier in the week, has lost four of its last five matches.

Middle blocker Jon Baer had 15 kills for Northridge (5-5).
