VENTURA : Citizens Form Patrols to Keep Areas Safe

Share

Citizen patrol groups have been formed in Ventura to keep watch over three city neighborhoods, police announced Wednesday.

Volunteers in the Todd Ranch, Ventura Avenue and Montalvo neighborhoods will be trained by the Police Department to identify suspicious people and automobiles and report them to authorities.

“We are training them to take a non-confrontational approach,” Sgt. George Morris said.

Armed with gloves and flashlights, volunteers with the Ventura Citizen Patrol Program will patrol their neighborhoods in pairs in the coming months after they receive training, Morris said.

The first training session will be in Todd Ranch Saturday, Morris said. The Ventura Avenue volunteers will be trained March 19, but Morris said a date was not yet set for the Montalvo training.

Anyone interested in joining a citizens patrol may call Morris at 339-4369.
