SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The City Council is looking for residents who want to serve on the city’s Planning Commission and its Parks, Recreational Facilities and Parkways Commission.

The terms of two planning commissioners expire early this month, as do those of three on the Parks Commission.

Both Linda Dixon, a planning commissioner, and Walter Davenport, chairman of the panel, said they plan to reapply for the four-year positions.

The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing and recommending all actions to the City Council on matters involving zoning, land use, new development and the General Plan. The Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Commissioners receive $300 per month for serving on the board.

The Parks, Recreational Facilities and Parkways Commission is responsible for advising the City Council on issues such as park development, recreational programs, removal of parkway trees and a variety of other matters.

The commission meets the fourth Wednesday of every month but receives no compensation.

Community members should forward a letter and resume detailing their interest in serving on either boards to Joe Erickson, P.O. Box 1200, Costa Mesa, CA 92626-1200. Correspondence may also be hand-delivered to the city manager’s office at 77 Fair Drive.

The City Council will decide on who fills the posts by the end of the month.
