Tandberg Data Promotes David Griffith to President, CEO

David L. Griffith, an eight-year veteran of Tandberg Data Inc., has been promoted to president and chief executive of the Simi Valley-based firm. Prior to his being named president, Griffith was vice president, sales and marketing, where he was responsible for the company’s TDC product line focusing on original-equipment manufacturer markets. Griffith succeeds Per Otto Dyb, who left the company. Tandberg, a unit of Tandberg Data of Oslo, Norway, is a leading international supplier of high-speed, high-capacity QIC tape drives and related products for computer data backup, archival storage and software distribution.

* Scott B. Sampson has been named president and chief operating officer of Coast Fed Business Credit Corp., the asset-based lending subsidiary of Coast Federal Bank, Los Angeles. Sampson takes over for Jack Baruch, who has been promoted to vice chairman and chief executive of the firm.

* Clarence T. Schmitz has been appointed executive vice president, office of the chairman, focusing on finance, administration and business development of Jefferies Group Inc. Schmitz, 46, was most recently national managing partner of KPMG Peat Marwick. The office of the chairman is responsible for leadership of the firm and includes Frank E. Baxter, chief executive, David F. Eisner, chief of staff and Alan D. Browning, national coordination director. Los Angeles-based Jefferies is a holding company whose principal subsidiary, Jefferies & Co., is a securities brokerage business.
