Los Angeles County sanitation officials will accept used motor oil, paint, batteries, pesticides and other unwanted chemicals and materials at a free household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Glendale Public Service Department, 800 Air Way.
Residents from the cities of Glendale, Burbank, La Canada Flintridge and Los Angeles are eligible to take part in the collection, officials said.
Other materials that will be accepted include cleaners with acids or lye, turpentine and garden herbicides. There is a limit of five gallons or 50 pounds of household hazardous waste per vehicle.
The items should be placed in a sturdy box, preferably in their original, labeled containers. No explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials or waste from businesses will be accepted.
Officials said more than 90% of the waste collected will be recycled.
