SIMI VALLEY : GOP Leader Plans to Run for Assembly

Share

Ventura County Republican Party Chairman Bob Larkin said Thursday he plans to announce his candidacy next week for an Assembly seat representing Simi Valley, Fillmore and northwestern portions of the San Fernando Valley.

Larkin is one of a number of Republican candidates jockeying for the seat that must be abandoned next year by Assemblywoman Paula Boland (R-Granada Hills) because of term limits on state legislators.

“The primary is early next year, it’s in March,” Larkin said. “So it’s time to get going, right now.”

Republicans dominate the conservative 38th Assembly District and so the winner of the GOP primary will have a strong edge over any Democratic challenger in the general election.

Larkin, a longtime State Farm insurance agent, said his campaign themes will focus on keeping insurance rates low and helping small-business owners.

“I’ll be running on less taxes, less government, less regulations, less crime and better education,” he said.

Other Republican candidates considering the Assembly race include Steve Frank, a government relations consultant in Simi Valley and Republican activist; Scott Wilk, Assemblywoman Boland’s chief of staff, and Peggy Freeman, the former director of a health and social service center for the poor in Val Verde.
