Outlook: San Clemente aims to improve on its poor finish in the regional tournament last year and seems to have the depth to make a run. “Our scores are much better than last year and yet my guys aren’t playing at a real high level yet,” Holbrook said. The Tritons’ top four--Johnson, Gross, Zapel and Larsen--are waged in a strong battle for No. 1, a healthy competition that is helping scores dip below 200 even at their home course, tough Pacific Golf Club. Holbrook is also happy to see the depth showed by Quade, Karl and Howard, whose scores are usually in the low 40s. “We just don’t have a real weak spot,” Holbrook said. “That’s how you win a lot of matches. I think we are as good a team as there is around. I haven’t seen anything to disprove it.”
